Reuse and Recycle Electronic Waste
Give older but still working computers to other U-M departments
- Post offerings to the U-M eCycle mail group.
- File an official transfer of the computer asset to the new department via e-mail.
Properly sanitize and dispose of unusable equipment
- If your equipment can no longer be used, send it to U-M Property Disposition to be disposed of properly.
- Before sending any equipment containing stored data, follow the proper procedures to sanitize it.
- Be sure to include all peripheral devices, cables and media.
Responsibly recycle obsolete equipment
- To schedule the pickup of e-waste accumulated up to one year, contact Occupational Safety and Environmental Health.

Use recycled products
Don't forget to close the recycling loop by using recycled material.
- To learn about equipment no longer needed by other departments that you may be able to use, join the U-M eCycle mail group. Save money and the environment at the same time.
- Buy recycled paper.
- Find manufacturers that use recycled materials by checking the EPEAT ratings.
